New guide for accountants to build resilience and value by embedding nature publishedÂ
A new guide, to help address the urgent need for the accounting profession to integrate nature-related issues into its work, has been published today (Monday 3 March 2025) to coincide with World Wildlife Day.Â
Launched by the Global Accounting Alliance (GAA), and developed by a team led by ICAEW, the guide âWhy Nature Matters To Accountantsâ explores how nature risk is linked to financial risk, and how nature connects to the professional responsibilities of accountants.Â
It also provides guidance on how to integrate nature into work across a range of different functions. It has been written for accountants working in business and in practice, particularly for board members, senior managers, analysts, report preparers and auditors, to underscore the urgent need for action as the planet faces an unprecedented nature crisis.Â
Report: The Case For Water Smart Housing â February 2025
This economic analysis estimates the proportion of planned homes that could be delayed by a lack of water capacity in the southeast and east of England, and the potential knock-on impact to the economy over the next five years.Â
Public perspectives around water scarcity and reuse were explored through an anonymous online survey of over 4,000 people across the UK. Â
This included experiments to test how water reuse type, location, water use and treatment affect public attitudes, and to test what types of messaging around water reuse are most and least effective.Â
The research found that water scarcity could cost the UK economy ÂŁ25 billion over the next five years due to undelivered housing developments â a critical obstacle to meeting the governmentâs housing targets. The research suggests that approximately 61,600 homes could go unbuilt in the east and southeast of England over the next parliamentary term due to water scarcity.Â
