The Heatwave Plan for England was recently released, and the Met Office will be in charge of issuing Heatwave Alerts when relevant from 1 June to 15 September 2015.
The plan is a key component of emergency planning and is increasingly relevant in adapting to climate change. It provides advice for professionals, organisations, and individuals to enable them to plan for and respond to heatwaves.
A copy of the plan and its associated supporting documents is available on the PHE website, accompanied by a cover letter from the Department of Health, PHE, NHS England and the Local Government Association.
No major changes have been made to the plan compared to last year, apart from reflecting new NHS England structures. This plan will remain in place until further notice. Existing advice on looking after children in school and early year’s settings is now in a stand-alone leaflet to improve accessibility.
