Summary of the Climate Costs Forum

On 4th July 2025, the LCRP with support from Arup, convened around 80 delegates from London boroughs, the private sector, and cultural and anchor institutions for the Climate Costs Forum.

The event opened with an inspirational keynote from Emma Howard Boyd, Chair of the London Climate Resilience Review, who underscored the urgency of adapting to a climate that has already changed, and continues to change. Deputy Chair of the LCRP and TfL’s Head of Sustainability and Corporate Environment, Sam Longman, reinforced this message by urging attendees to drive change while maintaining hope and focus on action.

Delegates explored how data can track organisational performance and better assess the impacts of extreme weather on operations and assets. These discussions will directly inform the forthcoming Getting Started Guide on Climate Costs, a free resource to help organisations establish programmes for collecting real-world data on the costs of climate change and extreme weather. This includes impacts on assets, operations, staff, customers, and supply chains.

The guide, to be produced by Arup, will also provide guidance on using climate risk assessments to forecast future cost shifts, tracking adaptation spending, and measuring the effectiveness of adaptation actions. By equipping organisations with practical data and tools, we aim to support financially informed business planning, highlighting not just economic value but also the tangible benefits of resilience. At a time of tightening budgets, such resources are indispensable. The Green Finance Fund

The Mayor’s Green Finance Fund (GFF) was launched in 2023 and will lend up to £500m to projects (led by public sector organisations) that help London meet its net zero ambitions. The aim is to accelerate decarbonisation by lowering the cost of borrowing for eligible organisations.

Eligible projects must be delivered within London and fall within one of three categories:

  • energy efficiency
  • clean transportation
  • renewable energy (including district heat networks).

The Green Finance Fund is open until 4 September 2025 for expressions of interest. For more information, please visit: The Green Finance Fund | London City Hall

Projections of heat related mortality under combined climate and socioeconomic adaptation scenarios for England and Wales – PLoS Climate

This study, led by researchers at UCL and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, projects heat-related mortality in England and Wales at Government region level under combined climate and socioeconomic scenarios, focusing on the implications of different pathways on adaptive capacity and resilience.

Fast-growing, global-south cities are ‘strikingly underrepresented’ in climate research – Nature Cities

Research on climate change in urban areas is skewed towards large, well-established cities in the global north, according to analysis of more than 50,000 studies.

The research, published in Nature Cities, uses keyword searching and machine-learning methods to produce a database of studies on climate change and cities published over 1990-2022. The authors find that small, fast-growing cities – especially in Africa and Asia – are underrepresented in their database.

UK Climate Resilience Roadmap
