Operation Helios – 27th June 2024

Recently, Greater London Authority’s London Resilience Unit led an exercise to support London’s preparedness in the event of emergencies and coordinated a wide range of organisations during a response. ‘Operation Helios’ explores an extreme heat scenario of five days of heat that scientists warn could affect Londoners by 2027. It came as a four-day Yellow Heat Alert was issued by UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office this week, with temperatures in the capital expected to soar to 30 degrees. The LCRP looks forward to receiving the finds of the exercise, and to work with the London Resilience Unit to amplify their work.
